Tuesday Jun 19 7:30 am

There was a relatively small group today - Tony, Nina, Josh, Pavel, Antonia, Al and myself.  We met at Andrew Haydon Park and carpooled from there.  Once again, Al insisted on driving me.

The highlight of the day was the showy lady's slippers which were in full bloom.  We also had great views of a Broad-winged Hawk and several warblers.

On the way back, we stopped at the burnt lands and got 5 species of sparrow.

Later in the afternoon, I had a Hooded Merganser with 5 chicks at Andrew Haydon Park pond.

Alfred Bog & Alfred Lagoons with Tony Beck

Thursday Jun 14 - 7:30 am

Today there were Tony and Nina, Jeanine (new), Lena,  Al, Ron and myself.  We met at Petrie Island, birded a short time, then car-pooled to Alfred Lagoons.  I went with the ever-generous Al.

We had a Common Moorhen spotted by Al.  In fact there were three.  The name has recently been changed to Common Gallinule.

Al thought he had an American Bittern. We had a Wilson's Snip along Hwy 17.

The Alfred Lagoons provided good spotting of many duck species and coots, reminiscent of the prairies.

Andrew Haydon Park

June 13, 2012

On a hot tip from Stephen Stevens, I hightailed it over to the west pond to find the mother Hooded Merganser and 8 chicks.  Try as I might, I could not get them all in one frame.  The Great Egret was also still present on the river, but further away.
