Morrow Lake

 September 16, 2020

Bill has wanted to paddle this lake since he heard about it from Alex, a former Venturer Advisor who worked at Paddle Shack/Tailhead.  Morrow Lake is located to the west of Calibogie and Black Donald Lakes.

On the way there on Hwy 417, Barbara spotted a Red-tailed Hawk.

While Bill unloaded the canoe, Barbara got a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and a dead Smooth Green Snake across the road.

We launched and made our way carefully through the shallow rocks. Finally, the lake opened up into a deep section where there were two very nice campsites.

We stuck close to the shoreline, and saw a flurry of Yellow-rumped Warblers at one point, and a Common Loon out of the lake.

After circumnavigating the lake, we returned to the launch to find 3 fellows getting reading to launch on a week-long camping trip.  They were very courteous, and helped us with our gear and even put our canoe up on the roof for us.  We wished thanked them and wished them a good trip.  Barbara supplied a bag of dog treats for their dog, who was going along. Looking around after they paddled off, we noticed more Yellow-rumped Warblers in the short trees by the launch.

We returned home via Centennial Lake and Hwy 41.
