Plovers to Harriers

 September 17-18, 2020

It was forecast to go below zero at Maniwaki, so we planned to go and drain the pump etc.  We were just ready to go when we got an RBA that two plovers were at Parc Moussette beach in Hull.  Well, that on our way; let's do it.  What an opportunity to see a Black-bellied Plover and American Golden Plover together side by side up close!

After that excitement, we headed to the cottage.  We planned to take the Gatineau Parkway, but it is closed to automobiles. We decided to go via Gracefield and Blue Sea Lake, so that we could check out boat launches at Lac à la Truite, Lac des Copains and Lac Allard for future canoe day trips.  We had our picnic lunch at Lac à la Truite where we saw a Veery and many leopard frogs.

On Chemin du Lac à L'Arche, we saw 2 Ruffed grouse.

Finally at the cottage, Bill uncovered the boat and went for a spin.  He was surprised to see a Red-necked Grebe, a rather uncommon visitor.

He tried a bit of fishing, then went and checked on the juvenile Bald Eagle and large loon chick.

On the way home, we picked up a screw in a tire and had to stop to pump. Then outside of Venosta, we saw 2 Northern Harriers interacting. More excitement!
