At our cottage we still have not sen the nest, but we have often seen both adults and now two young taking their first flight.
The Canes are often seen in the fields between Venosta and Kazabazua.

Eagles, Mergansers & Loons
July 23 2018
We surprised a Bald Eagle at the First Island loon nest. We presume it depredated the young, as we never saw any at this site, and the mother abandoned the nest.
We saw a nice group of Common Mergansers nearby.
Then, another disaster for the loons. The mother at Seagull Rocks abandoned an infertile egg.
At least a couple of babies from other pairs were doing fine.

Young Wood Duck
July 21, 2018
When heading down Traverse St.Jacques en route to our cottage, we always pause to check out the creek going into Blue Sea Lake. It has been productive in other years, but not this year. Until today. We spotted this very young Wood Duck which quickly paddled out of sight after a single photo from the car window.

Eagle and Loons
July 16, 2018
We surprised this Bald Eagle right near the first loon nest that was predated. Coincidence? Probably not.

Thankfully, two other loons hatched chicks. Although one pair had two chicks, losing one soon after birth.

Loon Count and Cottage Sightings
July 4-10, 2018
We found two loons on nests on July 4. The first nest was predated and the second had an infertile egg, so neither on these loons produced surviving young.
There was better luck at the Ch du Lac à L'Arche Heronry where at least 4 babies fledged.
Two Sandhill Cranes are seen between Venosta and Kazabazua on nearly every trip.
Other sightings of interest.
