Chemin des Eaux, Maniwaki

 June 17, 2022

Chemin des Eaux north of Maniwaki runs right along the Gatineau River.  We have found it to be a good place for grassland birds near our cottage at Grand lac des Cèdres.  You would be surprised at all the farms and old fields along this road.

We observed a Common Merganser and Common Loon from our dock before taking off to explore Chemin des Eaux.

We made a quick stop at Chemin Galipeau, where we saw a Least Flycatcher among others.

We went to Maniwaki through Farley and the Reserve, since it can be good for birds.  But this time, we only go a couple of Wild Turkeys.

Moving to our our main target road, we were not disappointed in the many Bobolinks and a few Eastern Meadowlarks.

Further north on the road, the fields change to forest and we got an Ovenbird and Blue Jay and another Bobolink!

Returning to Route 105, we stopped at Rue Gendron, where we often try for birds at the north end of Lac Evans.  Here we got many butterflies, another least Flycatcher and a Warbling Vireo.

Returning to our cottage, we were entertained by a Hairy Woodpecker feeding suet to one of its young.
