This was our third try for this Ottawa rarity, and this time we were lucky. It takes patience, and others had been waiting for over an hour. Not us! As we stepped out of the car, they shouted there it is in the field not 20 ft away. It was feeding on lumps of dirt showing through the snow instead of it's usual spot at the hay bale.
We went home via Dwyer Hill Road to Shea, then checked Akins. Nothing. But on Rushmore there was a Snowy Owl on a hydro post.
Back home, we had another visit from our Pileated Woodpecker, this time on a Feederwatch count day!
