Britannia & The Ottawa River - Ottawa West with Tony Beck

Thursday Mar 1, 8:00am

March came in like a lion and I was the only one brave (or foolish) enough to join Tony and Nina.

We went for a hike in the woods through the snow drifts to try and avoid the wind and driving snow.  We saw and fed some Black-capped Chickadees, then saw a White-breasted Nuthatch, a Northern Cardinal and a Blue Jay.  The highlight of the morning was a male Pileated Woodpecker that cooperated for photos.

There was no sign of the Carolina Wren, only American Crows.

We hiked back and up onto the ridge where we saw Common Goldeneyes, Mallards and a single male Common Merganser.  By 10:00 am, we were done, with only a European Starling to add to the list.
