Morris Island and Dunrobin

June 19, 2019

We were having our canoe repaired (tree fell on it) at the Trailhead workshop in West Carleton.  It is located in the backyard of one of our former Venturers, Cole Pruden.

After picking up the canoe, we went to Morris Island Conservation Area for a hike.  We were surprised to see Yellow Lady's Slippers and Northern Map Turtles here.

We got a few common birds, but the persistent singing Scarlet Tanager did not show itself.

As we left the island, we rescued a Midland Painted Turtle of the road, then saw another one laying eggs on the shoulder.

We decided to go home by Dunrobin to check for bluebirds again.  And this time we saw a pair and Tree Swallows too!
