Richmond-Munster Christmas Bird Count

 December 19, 2020

We had scouted on December 16, so had a definite plan.

We were off before sunrise heading to Fallowfield Road west of Huntley.

We check a number of feeders along Fallowfield, then spotted a bunch of redpolls on our way to Munster.

We slowly drove around the west side of Munster Hamlet checking all the feeders.  By then it was 10 am and we drove east on Bleeks Road to the Rideau Trail. We crossed the rickety bridge, and hiked to the hydro lines.

We surprised a Ruffed Grouse and saw 6 American Tree Sparrows and 24 perched Mourning Doves.  We returned to the car and drove Mansfield Road.  We saw more tree sparrows and a large flock of redpolls, including one Hoary Redpoll.

We drove the rest of the streets in Munster Hamlet and discovered a trail leading south parallel to Munster Road, which we hiked a loop on.

It was time to wrap up, so we drove slowly along Fallowfield Road to check the good feeders again, then headed for Eagleson/Akins on the off chance that there would be a Snowy Owl. Voila!

It had been a very good day.
