We loaded our bikes onto the car and drove to Messines, where would bike to Farley on the Great Trail - it's paved!
After a short ride, we came to an extensive wetland where we saw a Hooded Merganser family and a Chestnut-sided Warbler, among other birds.
At Lac Laverdure, we saw a young Wood Duck.
Crossing the main road, we came to an area where we have seen Indigo Buntings before. Bingo, there it was.
We retraced our path to Messines, then went to Maniwaki where we purchased two recreational kayaks at Canadian Tire. The grandsons can use them when they are up.
Barbara tried out her kayak, then we went on a Loon/Eagle count. There are two young Bald Eagles at the nest on Ile Gladu. We did not notice the second hunkered down one until we blew up the images.
Next we looked for the loon on the nest at Deep Bay, but could not see her. We soon saw why. Two loon chick had been born and were riding on the mother's back. The second nest, at Seagull Rocks, was still occupied. Expect action soon.
This year, there are plenty of Common Terns. When fishing, they hover over the diving loons to pick off the minnows driven to the surface.
Bill had time for some fishing and had a good catch.
Heading home for Sam's baseball game, we stopped briefly at the Venosta bike trail parking area. An Indigo Bunting male was singing as we opened the car doors.
What a lot of different adventures we had in a short time.
