Kingston Townsend's Solitaire

 November 12, 2023

This western rarity was reported by Paul Martin at his semi rural property north of Kingston on Bur Brook Road.  So, on this beautiful fall day, we made the trek to Kingston.  Paul was not home, but following his detailed instructions, we hiked the lovely trail behind his home.

We did not see the solitaire, but found a pile of feathers from the presumed predated bird.  The only live birds we saw were chickadees and a downy Woodpecker.  But we had a lovely hike.

We decided to return home via Perth Road and Westport.  On the way we saw many lakes, including one with at least a dozen Trumpeter Swans.  We also had a Red-tailed Hawk perched near the road.

We had a light lunch in Westport, then headed for Hwy 7.  We made a quick stop at Carleton Place to check the stormwater pond.  There was nothing unusual, just Greater Yellowlegs, Northern Shovelers and Green-winged Teals.

It was an enjoyable tour.
