Blue Sea and Big Cedar Birding

Aug 15, 2018

Brenda contacted me and we set a date to go birding.  We drove to Blue Sea Lake and checked out Benda's  loons.  The pair had a young one, but we could not see it.  We hike up Hutchison Road, but it was quiet except for Red-eyed Vireos.  Brenda has good ears, and could hear them twittering.

She really wanted to go over to Big Cedar to see the eagles, so she followed us in her car, and I took her out in the boat.  We saw both young, the nest and one of the adults.

I mentioned that John & Shayla had seen Bonaparte's Gulls, so we went looking and did find a couple at the end of the lake and also a group of Common Mergansers.

On the way home, we saw the two Sandhill Cranes even closer to the road than usual.
