Billings Bridge and Data Centre

March 18, 2019

There was still not a lot of open water except near rapids.  Billings Bridge is one such place where perhaps 100 Mallards have overwintered.  The best vantage point is from up on the bridge.  It was a classic"where's Waldo" situation to try and find something different among all the Mallards and Blacks.

Discounting the few Canada Geese, American Crows and Ring-billed Gulls, it took a good 15 minutes to finally spot a male Wood Duck.  As it moved around, we would lose it and have to start the search over again.  Then we noticed there was a second male Wood Duck - where had it been all along?

It was time to check out the Data Centre for Peregrines.  We scoped the ledges where we had seen them last year, and saw some suspicious debris, but nothing more.  So, we slowly drove around to the south side where I spotted one circling above the building.  We lost it briefly, but rediscovered it sitting perched on ledge giving us great scope views and chances for photos.
