The Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists pamphlet recommended a couple of bridge crossings with views of large wetlands near Kilmarnock Lock on the Rideau. We had never been there, so it's always fun to explore a new area. We traveled down on the west side of the river and back on the east.

Day Trip to Kilmarnock and Merrickville
August 19, 2019
The Mississippi Valley Field Naturalists pamphlet recommended a couple of bridge crossings with views of large wetlands near Kilmarnock Lock on the Rideau. We had never been there, so it's always fun to explore a new area. We traveled down on the west side of the river and back on the east.
On both sides, we saw occupied Osprey platforms. We also saw Cedar Waxwings, Belted Kingfishers, a Bald Eagle, Great Blue Herons and couple of Bullfrogs. In spite of ideal conditions, we saw no ducks!
