Birding with Craig & Pamela #1 Ross Road

 August 10, 2021

We had such good sightings last time, that this was our #1 choice for birding during Craig & Pamela's visit.  Although good, it was a lot quieter this time.

We left Ottawa very early and stopped for a scone breakfast at Cobden after checking out the Wood Ducks at the pond outside of town.

The keen birders spotted some Hooded Mergansers on Muskrat Lake by the picnic site and got permission from the adjacent house owners to go down their steep steps for a better look.

We went slowly along the Snake Line Road, birding as we went. We got a whole family of Belted Kingfishers at the Snake Line bridge.

Although Ross Road was quiet today, we did see the family of Common Gallinules again and many other marsh birds.

Several times, we saw a Virginia Rail dash across between clumps of vegetation, and Pamela managed an excellent photo.

We went to the Pembroke Marina and had lunch beside the Algonquin College campus on the Ottawa River.

We decided to head for Pakenham for ice cream and to show Pamela the 5-arch bridge, but the bridge was under repair and we had to detour via Blakeney.

We returned home via Panmure Road and found some good birds along the way.
