Palladium Drive Carp River Ponds

June 12, 2018

A Marbled Godwit had been reported here, but when we arrived, it had departed.  Nevertheless, we took the time to fully explore the Carp River and adjacent storm water pond.

The first thing we noticed were the Barn Swallows nesting and roosting under the concrete bridge.

Then we saw a Killdeer.  Barbara persevered and found the female sitting on a nest.

Other birds using the pond were a family of Mallards, many Red-winged Blackbirds, some Song Sparrows, Mourning Doves, a Great Egret and a few Spotted Sandpipers.

By the foot bridge at the back of the pond, we observed a Midland Painted Turtle and a school of minnows.

We crossed the bridge and discovered a large pond on the other side.  We saw a Monarch Butterfly, several Double-crested Cormorants and a growing family of Canada Geese.
