Merlin Nest with 3 or 4 Young

 July 10, 2021

We got an email from Ken telling us of this nest and offering to guide us there.  Bill headed out at 7:30 am to meet Ken at the undeveloped section of the former Rockcliffe Military housing area, south and above Rockcliffe Airport area.  As we parked, we could hear a merlin screaming - a good sign.  Ken led the way to the nest site, and we soon spotted the adult in a distant tree.  Ken explained that he found out about this nest from mutual friends Al and Carol German.

The young were all hunkered down, barely visible.   When the parent flew in, you could hardly seeing feeding them at the nest.

After it slipped out to look for more food, the babies rose higher in the nest making them more visible.

Thanks Ken, for the opportunity.
