Presqu'ile Post-trip

 September 12-13, 2021

After the OFO trip was finished, we headed to the Burken Bed & Breakfast in Brighton along with our good friends Colin & Hilda Wooles.

After settling in, we gathered for snacks and a chat on the back deck. We were all tired, so decided to order a pizza instead of going out somewhere.  We all enjoyed that!

We were early to bed to recoup after a big day of birding.  The next morning, before breakfast, Barbara went birding while Colin did Tai Chi on the front porch.  We all ordered Eggs Burken for breakfast, the specialty of the house.

After breakfast, Ken showed us his vintage cars - a 1955 Cadillac and a 1955 Buick.

We asked Ken and Burk if there were any trails nearby for birding, and they suggested Proctor Park.  Colin verified on his iPad that it was an eBird hotspot.  So we said our goodbyes to our gracious hosts and drove the short way to the park.

At first, it was not very birdy, but we met a woman at the bridge who told us to follow the creek over to the toboggan hill.  Here we found some good warblers and other species.

We hiked a loop trail and then posed for photos before saying goodbye to our birding buddies.  Colin and Hilda headed west for Toronto, while we went east along Hwy 2 to Belleville, where we had lunch at a park by the marina.

We drove north on Hwy 37 to Tweed, stopping for a birding break at the Vanderwater Conservation Area.  We did not know what to expect, but, once again, there were lots of warblers, including some new species for the trip. (Pine Warbler and Blue-headed Vireo)

Then it was on to Hwy 7 and the road home.  We stopped at Perth for a milkshake, then had a quick unsuccessful look for the plover at Carleton Place.

What a great birding trip we had with our Toronto buddies and sightings coming and going too, during the peak of fall warbler migration.
