When we went to Jean's trip, we made the 3-hour drive starting before 5 am. This time, we decided to skip that treat by going down the day before.
We took Hwy 7 to Carleton Place and stopped at the storm water pond to try for the American Golden Plover. It had departed, but we got some goodies anyway.
We carried on to Sharbot Lake and turned down Hwy 38 and proceeded to Camden Lake, Varty Lake and Nugent Road. Our main target was Loggerhead Shrike, and we may have seen one briefly. The consolation was a pair of Eastern Meadowlarks.
We continued on to Trenton to the Bayside Motel, where we would stay the night, less than 30 minutes from Presqu'ile. We arrived in time to relax at the lakeshore and do some birding.
We had supper in our room and tucked in early to get ready for the OFO Presqu'ile trip in the morning.
