Dows Lake

 November 1, 2021

We parked at the arboretum and hiked down the hill to the lake.  There were lots of common  ducks and geese, but notable were a few Greater Scaups and Hooded Mergansers.  We also saw a few American Coots and distant Common Goldeneyes and Common Mergansers and we walked towards the boathouse.

We then hiked the other way to the canal where Bill spotted a pair of Northern Shovellers in great light.

Wow, that was special!  We hiked back up the hill and cut across towards the car.  We saw a holly plant with berries that we had never noticed before.

We stopped in a Fletcher to check the feeder.  There was no sign of our vole and only chickadees at the feeder.  Then a Hairy Woodpecker stopped in.
