Checking eBird, we saw many fresh reports of a Boreal Owl and decided to try again after physio. The weather was unexpectantly good.
We saw the Barred Owl right by the little bridge, and while viewing it, a Pileated Woodpecker flew in briefly to the same tree.
We took the usual trail, and were surprised to see nobody else - only a deer.
Finally, we met a few birders who said that "the Nyctale" was putting on a good show, having caught a mouse. Finally we found it where there were a couple of other photographers patiently watching the owl. For several minutes, the Boreal Owl did nothing, but then proceeded to slowly eat the mouse, until the remaining portion was small enough to gulp down. It was quite a spectacle!
Barbara was able to make a couple of excellent videos.
We returned by the same route, except for the very last part. A deer followed us much of the way.
We were tired but excited about our success.
