Lark Sparrow

 February 21, 2021

On the way to Perth for a snowshoe hike on the Rideau Trail, we stopped off at Ashton to try for the Lark Sparrow.

When we arrived at McCaffrey Trail we saw the cars parked and a couple of people in the driveway.

We walked up and were told that the sparrow had just left.  They had staked out for hours the day before, so were not giving us much hope.  But, just to prove them wrong, it flew in right away and started feeding on the ground under the feeders. CHECK!

As we were leaving, a couple we know turned up.  I found out later that they waited an hour and did not get it.  Boy, we were lucky on this day!

  1. I stuck around for about 90 min on Saturday. It didn’t show. But, got to talk to some regulars and some new people also, so a cold but social stop.
