Arnprior & Points East

 March 2, 2021

It was a strange outing.  We decided to hike a bit again on the Crazy Horse Trail, but it was so icy and treacherous, that we soon abandoned it.  So we decided to go to Ivy Acres Road near Arnprior where Short-eared Owls have been reported.  We had no illusions about seeing them in early afternoon, but we wanted to see the area.  What we did see were Wild Turkeys and Snow Buntings.

Unsure of what to do next, we opted for going all the way back to Nepean on Dwyer Hill Road.  When we came to Old Almonte Road, we stopped in for a few minutes to look for the Eastern Towhee.  No luck.  The homeowner encouraged us to go into the backyard, which we had done.

So we carried on Dwyer Hill Road, and on a whim, turned onto Fernbank Road to check for the Boreal Chickadee.  Well, we did not see him either, but at least got a few nice shots of feeder birds.

Since we were in the area, we thought we may as well check Eagleson for Snowies.  Indeed, there were two distant - one on Aikins and the other on Rushmore.  We also saw a few Horned Larks.

Not a stellar day, but it was nice to see some new areas and explore old haunts.
