Today was a perfect fall day, colorful and warm. It was quiet at the feeders at FWG, although Barbara spotted a vole (who was quick to hide in a hole under some rocks). We met a birder on bicycle who told us that there were lots of ducks at Dows Lake. So we hiked down there and on the way got a few Ruby-crowned Kinglets.
We carried on over to the canal and Dows Lake and saw a good number of waterfowl, including American Black Ducks, Bufflehead, Lesser Scaups, Ring-necked Ducks, Hooded Mergansers and Green-winged Teals as well as our first Coots of the season.
Heading back to FWG, Barbara saw an immature White-crowned Sparrow.
We met Sami and Lynn at the garden. They reported a Goldfinch drinking at the water pipe. We looked for the vole again but it was so quick that there are no photos.
