Red-necked Grebes Visit Big Cedar Lake

 October 11, 2021

We were busy preparing to host a neighbourhood Thanksgiving Dinner, when Barbara spotted some unusual loons-like birds with long necks in our bay.  A quick look at her photos, and Bill launched the boat to photograph the Red-necked Grebes - rare visitors.  In fact there were 8 to 10 of them.  It was raining quite heavily, so the photos are rather grainy.

The next day we had some sun, so we launched the boat again to try for better shots.  Unfortunately, the grebes had all left, but the loons put on a good show in their fall plumage.
