Data Centre, Experimental Farm and Lemieux Island

 April 4, 2022

With winter really over, we decided to check the Data Centre for Peregine Falcons.  We were lucky to see one hanging out.

While setting up the scope, it took off in a dog fight with a couple of crows, but returned unsuccessful.  We were unable to get a good photo, but we enjoyed watching the hunt.

With some time before lunch, we drove the lanes of the Experimental Farm to check out the famous manure pile.  Managed  a nice Common Raven by the silo nest.

After lunch and a break, we drove to Lemieux Island to see the Black-crowned Night-Heron nesting site.  We counted 5, but Colin & Martha came along and showed us a 6th.  Then we saw a 7th and finally an 8th.  Most of them were very well hidden.

Most interesting, a couple of Double-crested Cormorants were copulating on one of the tiny islands.
