Elmhurst and Frank Ryan Parks

 April 18, 2022

We called cousin Nancy to see if she wanted to go with us to her local parks to look for a Carolina Wren.  She was glad to accept.

We parked at her house on Norton Avenue and walked down to Elmhurst Park.  We briefly heard a Carolina Wren and spotted a Hairy Woodpecker.

We crossed Alpine Avenue to Frank Ryan Park and immediately heard the loud calling of a Carolina Wren.  It was close, but we could not see it.

We split up and Bill and Nancy tracked it down.

We noticed some other birders coming along.  Wait a minute!  They were Sami and Lynne.  Soon we were all on the wrens.

Lynne pointed out a Downy Woodpecker excavating a hole and a White-breasted Nuthatch flew in to check us out.

We said our goodbyes and started back. A Morning Cloak butterfly crossed our path.

Returning to Elmhurst Park, we heard another two Carolina Wrens.  Brenda was there checking them out.  Bill also saw a Song Sparrow.

It was good getting caught up with Nancy while we had luck with our target Carolina Wrens - two in each park.  It was a fine way to spend our Easter Monday.
