Dickcissel

 October 21, 2022

Our friend and Ottawa birder Derek Dunnet reported a Dickcissel at his backyard feeder.  As this would be a lifer for us, we headed right over - its only 8 minutes away.  When we got there, a lady who was coming out, said we could go into the neighbour's yard beside Derek's and view the feeders from there.  So we joined a few other birders there and got our lifer.

There were lots of other birds too, coming to his feeders.

Earlier in the day, we decided to go out to lunch at the Ashton Pub, and also try some birding in the area.

We were pleasantly surprised to see two Sandhill Cranes near the rec centre.

There was nothing at the Jock River bridges, so we decided to check the Carleton Place strorm pond nearby.

A highlight was a single Dunlin, but there were many other common birds.

A very successful day!
