Long-billed Dowitcher

 October 12, 2022

A Long-billed Dowitcher had been reported for a few days at the Carp River Watershed Reclamation Area, so we decided to try for it.

We were very fortunate to park nearby and search in the right place on our first try.  We were just getting on the birds when Colin G showed up - always a pleasure.  Not only did we see the dowitcher, but also a bonus Wilson's Snipe.  Then some Pectoral Sandpipers landed right in front of us.

On Colin's recommendation, we drove to the close by Winterset Road to check the ponds there.  The Snow Goose was obvious, but the Redheads were too distant and obscured and we could not located the Greater white-fronted Goose that had been reported.
