A report with photos of an American Three-toed Woodpecker on Pine Grove Trail, posted this morning, got us moving fast!
We parked on Conroy Road, and hiked east on the trail. We met several birders that we knew who all reported that the bird had not been seen again. Undaunted, we hiked all the way to P18 without a sighting. But it was a very pleasant walk in mild weather. We started back and soon got a couple of good birds, including a Brown Creeper.
We met Colin & Martha and had a nice chat; they had not seen the woodpecker either, but had met the lady who had reported it. When we got back to Conroy Road, we decided to hike a bit west on the trail. Here we saw many robins and some White-throated Sparrows.
Although we missed the target, we realized that this area has huge potential for birding next spring.
