Beckwith and John Shaw Road

 April 8, 2023

We went to the Beckwith Recreation sports fields to look for a Western Meadowlark that Jon Ruddy reported.  There were no meadowlarks, but we got a FOS Osprey making a nest on a light standard.

We made a brief stop at the Carleton Place stormwater pond, but there was nothing of interest.  Before going home, we decided to check out John Shaw Road where the Carp River has overflowed it's banks.  On the way there, Barbara saw a pair of American Kestrels and a few Turkey Vultures.

At the bridge o John Shaw,  there was a Killdeer, 4 Hooded Mergansers and a very dark Red-tailed Hawk.

There were thousands of Canada Geese.  We were looking for something different and may have found an unusual hybrid.
