We were just planning to head out to Mud Lake, when we noticed a couple of Chipping Sparrows making out in the back yard. By the time Bill grabbed his camera, the deed was done. Still, it was the first sighting of the spring!
Then it was off to Mud Lake and up onto the ridge. Barbara got a Song Sparrow, and we saw a couple of skulking Ruby-crowned Kinglets.
It was very quiet on the ridge, and we worked hard to get a few common species and a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers.
Barbara got a couple of nice Northern Cardinals.
There were a few ducks and cormorants down on the river.
We retraced our steps on the ridge. There were dozens of Tree swallows flitting overhead. So tough to photograph.
Almost back, we got a skulking White-throated Sparrow, which we were lucky to photograph. We also got the first female Red-winged Blackbird that we had seen this year.
