Twin Elm & Shirley's Bay

 April 24, 2023

Some people have seen Rustys at Twin Elm, but we did not.  There were literally 100s of blackbirds, so it was hard to see if any were Rustys.  There were plenty of Greater Yellowlegs and we saw our FOS Palm Warbler.

Another birder, Tom, pointed out a couple of different shorebirds.  They were too far away, but Merlin identified them as Stilt Sandpipers.

A Savannah Sparrow popped into view while we were checking the distant Green-winged Teals and Gadwalls.

We walked slowly back to the car, picking up some woodpeckers and several Yellow-rumped Warblers.

There were reports of hundreds of grebes on the Ottawa River, so we headed over to Shirley's Bay.  Breeding plumage Horned Grebes were abundant.  The Red-necked Grebes were too distant for photos.

Sean and Donna stopped by and we had a nice chat while they admired the grebes in the scope.  We looked for wrens, but there were none.  However, a Northern Flicker put on a good show.
