Twin Elm and Viewbank Road

 April 18, 2023

The Solitary Sandpiper was reported again, so we decided to give it another shot, even though rain was spitting. This time there were many more Greater Yellowlegs.

We were scoping at the side of the road when we noticed Eleanor and her friend Judy up ahead.  Eleanor pointed out the Solitary Sandpiper alone at the edge of the pond, but it was encumbered by branches.  Bill hiked down the private lane a bit and was rewarded with good views.

Then, the Solitary Sandpiper decided to fly out and join the Yellowlegs in the middle of the pond. Note the size difference.

Eleanor and Judy left but told us to look out for Rusty Blackbirds.  Well, no Rustys for us, but Barbara got a nice Eastern Phoebe.

We took Barnsdale over to Viewbank, stopping briefly at Moodie Pond to photograph the Common Merganser pairs.

It was windy and very cold at Viewbank.  We saw several Song Sparrows and a few Vespers.  But they all did not want to be photographed.

Time to head home for hot chocolate.
