Bruce Pit Trails by Bicycle

May 17, 2020

We still had a trail on the west side of the creek to explore, so decided to go there by bicycle.  But first we went along the top to look for warblers.

There were far fewer on this trip, but we did manage to scrounge up a Yellow-rumped Warbler.

We could see a Great Egret from our high perch, but got much closer to it when we biked around.

Barbara discovered a pair of Tree Swallows nesting in a hole in a dead tree.  It looks like one of them is giving a scolding.

We saw some painted turtles basking, and a family moved a young snapper off the trail.

We explored the side trail and saw some of Emma's (past Venturer) treasures.

The trail was devoid of birds, except for a couple of Ruby-crowned Kinglets, seen poorly.

Back at the pond, the Great Egret continued to entertain us with flying and fishing.

We also saw a Swamp Sparrow and Common Grackle in good light.

We drove home through TA Park without seeing anything new.  At home, Barbara continued to monitor the European Starling nest in the apple tree next door.  Adults were coming and going, and she managed to snap one coming out with a fecal sac.

Our feeders were also busy with the usual suspects and also a Purple Finch.
