Richmond Lagoons & Our Yard

May 10, 2020

We made a quick stop on the way to the lagoons at the dead end on Twin Elm.  There was lots of bird song but nothing close.  Bill was pretty sure he saw a Rusty Blackbird, but it took off while he was raising the camera.  Finally, close to the car, we got a Palm Warbler and Swamp Sparrow.

W continued on to the Richmond Lagoons, and headed straight for the northern cell.  We met Lorraine Elworthy and her husband.  We were all looking for the Wilson's Phalarope, but all we were seeing were Yellowlegs.

Barbara went around to the far side of the cell, a motioned us to come over.
A couple of other birders were there and they had seen it.  Soon We got on it too.

Suddenly all the shorebirds flushed.  A Peregrine Falcon came by we found out later from Mike Tate.
We hiked down to the Jock River, hoping to see more goodies.  We got a Sharp-shinned Hawk and an Osprey with a large fish.

Hiking through the woods, we got a few Yellowrumps and a Mourning Dove.

Back home, we had lots of activity in our yard.  Highlights were a chickadee in our bird house and  a visit by a dozen Cedar Waxwings.

After supper, we went for our ravine walk. We got a pair of American Black Ducks, more Yellow-rumped Warblers, a Northern Cardinal and a raccoon.
