Mud Lake, Andrew Haydon Park & Stoney Swamp

May 23, 2020

A week had passed since our last visit to Mud Lake.  We found quite a change.  Most of the migrants had departed, and the residents were more in evidence.

We were birding the ridge and met Derek and Erik.  Although they had just seen a Blackpoll Warbler, they reported that the whole area was slow, and they soon departed.  We decided to follow suit and go to Andrew Haydon Park.  In the bush between the two sections of the park, we finally got our American Redtstart.

At the west section, we met Mark Gawn who alerted us to a Cape May Warbler in a willow tree.

We came home to check on the starlings next door - young still begging for food.

Late in the afternoon, we persuaded Grant to come with us to look for the Barred Owl.  The chicks had not fledged and the photographer crowd had not diminished.

We checked on the flicker hole we had seen under construction previously.  No birds, but some fluffy feathers in the hole.

Returning to the trail, we got a Great Crested Flycatcher and our first Chestnut-sided Warbler.

Heading to the car, we saw the usual Wild Turkeys.
