Heafy’s Lake and Trail near the Creek

June 8, 2020

Having approached the flooded Heafy’s Lake from the top road, we now went by the bottom.  We parked at the intersection for Lac Landrieux and hiked in.  We saw a few warblers and woodpeckers and lots of Tiger Swallowtail butterflies.  We could not reach the lake due to flooding. We returned to the car and flushed a Broad-winged Hawk which perched obligingly.

Later we investigated a hunter’s trail east of the creek.  It was very overgrown and led to a tree stand. Best bird was a Veery that was perched practically overhead. We also flushed a bird from the ground 3 times.  It was smaller than s grouse, so our best guess is a Woodcock.
