Trout Fishing at Catherine Creek

June 9, 2020

The lure of the creek sites seen on a June 3 hike was too great.  We had to check it out.

We stopped first at the heronry, but all of the nests appeared to be empty.  A heron was seen flying away in the distance.

We parked at the start of Chemin Mélizé and hiked in to the gate, fishing gear in hand.

We went around the gate and Bill tried the pools below the culvert.  No luck.

Meanwhile, Barbara went on down the road and had much better luck.

Undaunted, Bill bushwhacked upstream to the area where there are two trailers and a lovely pool.  This time, he had some fish on, but could not get them in.

Soon the luck stopped and it was time to return to the car.  Before leaving, at Barbara's suggestion, he tried the pool on the main road.  No luck here either.

As we approached the heronry, we could see an adult at the closest nest. Barbara jumped out and snapped a photo.  You can seen a young heron is in there too.

We'll keep checking to see if there are more young and if any of the other nests are occupied.
