Britannia Conservation Area

 April 12, 2021

We returned to Mud Lake to look for early warblers.  The ridge was very disappointing, although others had seen Yellow-rumps.  So we took to the main trail across the road, then the first fork.  It was quiet too, except for Song Sparrows.

We met Michelle and Paul, then Colin and Martha.  They had heard Pine Warblers back on the main trail. We decided to look at the roost trees for Eastern Screech Owl; not present.

So we went down to the main trail where we heard a Northern Flicker and tracked it down.  It entered a hole in a tree - perhaps a home?

We could hear Pine Warblers trilling, so went to the turn in the trail at the back of Mud Lake.  Barbara spotted a Yellow-rumped Warbler. Yea, our first warbler of the season!

We continued hearing Pine Warblers, and eventually one showed up briefly, but Bill's camera froze.  Oh well, back to the car, dodging the crowds of families out on the spring break.
