We returned to Mud Lake to look for the goodies that Jane and Sami had seen. We hiked down the trail seeing many Song Sparrows and a few Dark-eyed Juncos on the path. We even saw a single Golden-crowned Kinglet.
It seemed that everyone we met wanted to tell us where the owl was. We ended up following another guy and walked right past it. He stopped and then showed a little ways back on the trail us where it was sitting on an apparent nest. Of course there were many branches in the way, and we tried several positions to try for a clear shot.
We met Bruce Di Labio who told us that it might be just using an old nest for roosting. Downy Woodpeckers, robins and cardinals were all around.
We saw a pair of Common Ravens heading for their nest, so took a side trail to investigate. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a Pileated Woodpecker constructing a cavity nest. This occupied us for quite awhile.
Finally, we headed out to Dunrobin to check on our ravens' nest. It was getting larger, but, once again, we did not see the ravens.
At Constance Creek, there were many Hooded Mergansers and a tree full of starlings.
We swung by Greenland Road at 4:30 pm and the photographers were already gathering to look for the perched Great Gray Owl. We only stayed a few minutes, as we had our photos from last week. On the way home we checked the blue bird nest boxes on 5th Line Road and Berry Side Road but no blue birds yet.
