West Ottawa and Lanark Tour

April 16, 2019

We started by checking Maritime Way one last time.  The herons were not there, but a pair of geese and a couple of cormorants were!

We checked 5th Line Road for bluebirds, with no luck. At Greenland, we has an American Kestrel and a FOS Eastern Phoebe.

Our next stop was Constance Creek to see the Ospreys.  When we arrived, there were two on the nest and a third circling around.  Some Ring-necked Duck were on the creek and a Song Sparrow was lurking in the reeds.

Then it was off to Dunrobin to check on the ravens' nest.  No birds, but some traces of black on the nest.

We headed straight west on Thomas Dolan, eventually arriving in Pakenham to see the Mississippi in flood.

Our next destination was Almonte where we scoped out the lagoons viewing tower for a future trip.

The ice cream store was closed, but the chocolate factory was open!  Our last stop was at Burnt Lands.  We hiked down into the alvar spotting another American Kestrel.  We could hear Chorus Frogs, but could only spot a dormant Green Frog.  Before leaving we saw a male Northern Harrier patrolling the fields.
