Mud Lake

April 17, 2019

Grant, Barbara & I returned to check the nests we had discovered previously and found a few new goodies as well.  Wood Ducks were very much in evidence.

We first saw some Cedar Waxwings. Then we went to the Pileated Woodpecker nest.  The male was not there, but it soon flew in.  We continued to see it throughout our hike at various locations.

As far as we could see, ravens were not in the nest, but adults were coming and going continuously.

We could hear a Pine Warbler singing but could not locate it.  Then suddenly it was there, right in front of us, posing for photos.

The Barred Owl was not in evidence today but cardinals and Song Sparrows were everywhere.

We met birders Heather at the bridge and Derek and Karine coming in as we were leaving.  We saw a pair of sapsuckers, but too far for photos.  Then, a couple of Brown Creepers put on quite a show.

Mammals seen today were Muskrat and Snowshoe Hare.
