Nepean Sailing Club & Andrew Haydon Park

April 21, 2019

It's Easter!  Let's go birding locally, now that ice is off the river.
We parked at the sailing club, since the entrances to Andrew Haydon Park were still barricaded.  We could see birds on the bay.  No need to scope, they are Buffleheads.

We hiked all the way out to the lighthouse.  There were lots of black and white ducks over by Andrew Haydon: let's go.  We hiked over past the club.  The Purple Martins are not back, but House Sparrows are attempting to nest.  We saw a friendly Chpping Sparrow in the spruce trees and a groundhog just peaking out of his burrow.

When we got over the bridge, we saw the the black and white ducks were Lesser Scaups.

A little further along, we saw a male Northern Shoveller.

We saw a total of 3 Muskrats.  Must be a good year.

We hiked as far as we could go, then swung back to the sailing club.  We got in the car and started to leave when we saw Alan and Carol drive in and stop.  They had spotted a Bald Eagle in a distant tree.  It was a young one, so no white head.  There followed the usual soul searching about Golden Eagle, but no, it was a Bald.
