Back to Bruce Pit

April 7, 2020

We altered our route to check out the filed and trees behind Banner . We found some nice pussy willows, but we already had some nice ones from the day before, so did not collect any.

It was pretty quiet, so we made an impromptu decision to go down Stapledon and go onto the NCC trails leading over to Bruce Pit. We saw a Mourning Dove on Stapledon.

There was still a bit of snow on the trail and it was really muddy.  At a junction, we went left, but soon came to a huge mud hole.  So we went back and took the right fork.

It was a very pleasant hike on unknown territory.  But when we came to the creek, we knew exactly where we were.

When we got to the pond, we could see right away that the swans had departed. So we enjoyed the Ring-necked Ducks and Buffleheads and even saw another Muskrat.

We thought we would go all the way around and started up the hill.  We saw our FOS Brown-headed Cowbird.

When we got up to the gate, there was as sign that the trail was closed.  Looking ahead, we also saw yellow tape.  So we had no choice but to turn around.

Returning to the bridge, we noticed Mallards and a Canada Goose up on mounds of vegetation, presumably getting ready to nest.

We returned home by the main path to Hobart.
