After supper, Bill was on a call from Nancy when Barbara appeared with a wren photo taken from our front porch. She has been checking the hole in the neighbour's crab apple tree where starlings had been coming and going, apparently starting a nest. She and Grant were looking at the tree when he noticed movement above the hole. It was a wren doing some excavating and gathering of materials too. She snapped some excellent photos and brought them in. Imagine Bill's surprise to see that it was a Carolina Wren, not a House Wren. The neighbours had reported seeing a wren in their driveway earlier in the day, but none of us expected a Carolina!
