Barbara looked out the front in the morning to see if the starlings were building their nest in the neighbour's tree. To her surprise, the starling was on the ground, while a Downy Woodpecker was investigating the nest hole.
We went to cousin Bruce's house to clear out the rest of the furniture, since the sale will be finalized next week. Afterwards, we drove to the Coats Building to look for Peregrine Falcons, but there were none around. From there, we went to the CRA Tax Building, where they have nested last year. Yes, one was visible on the ledge.
We stayed quite a while with nothing happening, then it took off, then landed on the adjacent ledge.
We know from past experience, that the nest is not really visible except for some messy material in the corner. Photos taken before and after the male landed show a difference - a lump beside the elevated material, which may be a young falcon.
We looked behind us and saw our friend Langis who monitors this site. From a respectable distance, we enjoyed discussing the falcons and also the ravens which we are helping him monitor. He asked us to stop at Baseline and Greenbank to see how those ravens were doing. We did stop, and took some photos wherein we could see the gaping mouth of a young raven in the nest.
It was a very successful outing.
