Turkey Search

April 2, 2020

We checked out yard for bingo birds and found a pair of European Starlings checking out a hole in our neighbour's tree.

We needed a Wild Turkey for our bingo card, so we headed out to rural Kanata to look for one.  Well, that did not work out, so we decided to check the ravens at the CTC while we were in the neighbourhood.  We discovered that our pair had a newborn chick that needed feeding.

We took Terry Fox over to March Rd without seeing a turkey, so we decided to go out to Dunrobin and drive a square, since we have seen them there recently.  But first we checked on the Dunrobin raven nest and found a female sitting.

We carried on sans turkey, but on Torwood Dr., we found a pair of American Kestrels and, at the same location, heard then saw a couple of Eastern Meadowlarks.

Still no turkeys and the bluebirds were not around either.  So we came home by March Valley Road, and we finally found two groups of Wild Turkeys.

We checked out some ponds and found one with several Hooded Mergansers.

We got home and, after supper, went for a walk to the Bruce Pit to check out woodcock locations.  At the bridge, there were lots of Red-winged Blackbirds and a couple of cooperative Muskrats, as well as Ring-billed Gulls and a pair of American Black Ducks.

Walking home, we had the most fabulous sunset behind us, illuminating a tree full of starlings.

It had been quite a day!
