Viewbank Rd and Canadian Tire Centre

April 20, 2020

We returned to Viewbank Rd to look for Vesper Sparrows, but there were none.  We have concluded that the string of cold weather has delayed migration this year.  We have yet to see a warbler either, although a few have been reported.  There were plenty of sparrows, but they were all Song Sparrows.

We found a dead tree in which chickadees were making a nest.

We made a brief stop at the corner of Borrisokane to look at the pond, but there was nothing but a few Mallards.

Then we stopped along Barnsdale to view the pit.  Besides the usual suspects, there were Green-winged Teals.

Our next stop was a new location for us, Harbison Road off Malakoff.  It looked great, but we actually got very little besides  FOS Tree Swallow.  Any way, it's always nice to discover a new location.  Thanks, Larry Neily.

We went home and took a break, then got an email from Langis asking us to check the raven nest at the CTC in Kanata.  We were happy to oblige.

We were able to count five young ravens.  At least one was out on the ledge, and it looked like the other four would not be far behind.  I'm glad we checked before they all had fledged.
